The new Raspberry Pi Camera boards v2 are out!

The new Pi Cameras comes in the usual standard and NOIR format which so well worked for the success of the old models.

In comparison with the previous version the new camera comes with an improved native resolution of 8 megapixel high quality Sony IMX219 image sensor and it is capable of 3280 x 2464 pixels for static images.

The physical size of the new boards is slightly bigger than the old ones measuring

25mm x 23mm x 9mm vs 20mm x 25mm x 9mm

of the old ones and the PCB of the new presents smoother edges and better pads for the spacers or screws. A part from that the differences aesthetically are marginal.

The big difference is of course on the improved image sensor which is now able to deliver pictures which don’t have much to envy to 4K.

For the rest the cameras offer the same features as the previous ones and they capture video at 1080p30, 720p60 and 640x480p90 resolutions.

As its predecessor, this new camera is the perfect companion for your Raspberry Pi and whether you want to explore nature or perform video surveillance it will do an excellent job.

If you think of buying one get yours from PiSupply by following this link for the normal one or this for the NOIR. The Cams will be available in stock from today and can obviously be found from whichever Pi shop is your favourite 🙂
